Nearly one in four online daters say they've found a spouse or long-term partner on one of the sites, a new report says.

(CNN) -- If eHarmony or Match.com features more prominently in your "how we met" story than a smoky nightclub or the produce aisle, you're probably not so reluctant to admit it.

Six out of 10 Americans now believe dating sites are a good way to meet people, according to a new report from the Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project.

That's up from 44% who felt that way in 2005, the last time Pew conducted a similar survey.

And barely two out of every 10 people (21%) still feel that "people who use online dating sites are desperate." Eight years ago, almost 30% thought so.



"General public attitudes toward online dating have become much more positive in recent years, and social networking sites are now playing a prominent role when it comes to navigating and documenting romantic relationships," reads a summary of Pew's report.

The upside of online dating

According to the survey, conducted with 2,252 adults in April and May, 11% of Internet users, and 38% of those who said they're currently "single and looking," have used online dating sites or apps. Among them, 66% said they went on a date as a result.

And nearly one in four (23%) said they actually met a spouse or other long-term partner through the sites.

In 2005, 43% who tried online sites actually went on a date. But 17% said they found long-term love, not terribly lower than the recent number.

How technology has changed romance



But just because it's more common and accepted doesn't mean Internet mingling (Christian or otherwise) has worked for everyone.

More than half the respondents who have tried it (54%) said that someone they'd met had seriously misrepresented themselves in their profiles and more than one out of four (28%) said they'd been contacted through one of the sites "in a way that made them feel harassed or uncomfortable."

Why traditional dating is dead

That number shoots up to 42% of women who have used dating sites, compared with 17% of men.

And maybe it's not all that surprising, but a growing number of people have used the Internet for intimate contact of a less formal nature.

Nearly one out of four respondents said they've gone online to check up on former partners, and a similar number said they've flirted with someone on the Web.

Young people between 18 and 24 are the most Web-flirtatious. About half (47%) said they've flirted from behind a keyboard.

The survey was conducted through telephone interviews in English and Spanish. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.3 percentage points for all respondents and plus or minus 2.5 percentage points for Internet users.

Complaining To Friends Increases Girls' Misery

Girls who dish to their friends about their problems may actually be increasing their misery by doing so.

Such are the findings of a study released Sunday, in which researchers at the University of Missouri-Columbia found that "co-rumination" -- in other words, excessively discussing problems with close friends -- appears to increase anxiety and depression in young and adolescent girls.

Boys of the same age, on the other hand, appeared to be immune to these effects.

The study appears in the July issue of the American Psychological Association (APA) journal Developmental Psychology.

"We used to really worry about kids who don't have friends," said lead study author Amanda Rose, associate professor of psychology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. "That makes sense; we still should worry about them. But we usually feel good about kids who have friends whom they can talk to.

"It is important that parents and professionals not ignore the possibility that girls with close friends are still at risk for depression and anxiety."

Psychology experts grappled over exactly how the findings should be interpreted. Alan Kazdin, professor of child psychiatry at Yale University and former president of the APA, said the findings point to certain warning signs for parents.

"A little bit of talking about problems is fine, but much focus on trauma, injury and problems can incubate -- increase or exacerbate -- their effect," he said. "Sensitizing parents to this and having professionals sensitize parents and teachers to this would be helpful."

Some, however, questioned the link.

"It should be noted that this is shows a co-occurrence of two behaviors... and not a causal relationship," said Dr. Chris Okiishi, a child and adolescent psychiatrist at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. "In other words, this study does not show that one causes the other -- just that they occurred at the same time."

And Nadine Kaslow, chief psychologist at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta and a professor at Emory University's School of Medicine, said there are benefits to communicating concerns with friends that go beyond depression and anxiety.

"Just because it makes us feel depressed, it isn't all bad," she said. "We wouldn't keep doing it if it just made us feel bad."



She added that it is important to note that while such interactions may increase certain symptoms of anxiety or depression, it does not necessarily mean that a girl is clinically anxious or depressed.

"We need to be really careful, because while you might have symptoms of anxiety and depression, that does not necessarily mean you have the condition," she said.

A Vicious Cycle

Rose and her colleagues looked at both boys and girls in 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th grades over a six-month period to see how sharing problems with friends correlated with anxious and depressed feelings.

What they found was that for girls, sharing problems with friends strengthened their friendships -- but it also increased their feelings of depression and anxiety.

"What is interesting is that co-rumination is not only linked with anxiety and depression, but it is also linked with friends feeling close to one another," Rose said.

The same trend was not seen in boys, in whom sharing problems increased feelings of friendship but had no impact on their depression or anxiety levels.

Yale's Kazdin said the findings of the study seem to back up behavior differences seen between girls and boys.

When news broke last week that a former vice president of Tinder filed a sexual harassment suit against the mobile dating app company, the most salacious parts of the complaint quickly spread around the Internet. Whitney Wolfe alleges that her former colleague Justin Mateen, chief marketing officer of the hugely popular app, called her a "whore" (among other slurs) and deliberately concealed Wolfe's role in founding the company, in part because it would look too "slutty" for a woman to have contributed to the development of a dating and casual sex app. Eventually, Wolfe claims, Mateen and chief executive officer Sean Rad bullied her into resigning from Tinder.

Wolfe also named IAC/Interactive Corp, Tinder's majority investor, in the suit. An IAC representative has described the accusations as "unfounded." He also said that the company is conducting an internal investigation over the charges, and has suspended Mateen as a result of its finding that he did send private, inappropriate messages to Wolfe. Mateen did not respond to Reuters' request for comment.



Mateen is not the first Silicon Valley startup wunderkind to be busted for mistreating members of the opposite sex. In May, Valleywag published a series of leaked emails from Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel. As a Stanford undergrad, Spiegel joked with his fellow Kappa Sigma brothers about how much alcohol it would take to get sorority girls drunk enough to have sex with them, and suggested that the best way to congratulate themselves for throwing a great party was to "have some girl put your large Kappa Sigma dick down her throat." Spiegel may now wish he had Snapchatted those messages to his frat brothers, instead of emailing them. Written five years ago, they don't exactly instill confidence in his maturity, nor do they suggest much respect for the millions of women who use his app. In May Spiegel issued a public apology for writing the emails and said that he is "mortified and embarrassed" that they were made public.

U.K.'s Cameron: NATO Must Review Relationship With Russia

LONDON--NATO must review its long-term relationship with Russia and take measures to deter any Russian aggression such as sustaining a robust military presence in Eastern Europe, U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron said on Saturday ahead of a summit of the alliance's members in September.

In a letter to the leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's 28 member states, which include the U.S., Germany and France, Mr. Cameron said that six months into the Russia-Ukraine crisis, the alliance must agree on long-term measures to strengthen its ability to respond quickly to any threats and make clear to Russia that NATO and its members won't be intimidated. It is clear that Russia views NATO as an adversary and the alliance must accept that the cooperation of recent years isn't currently possible because of Russia's actions, Mr. Cameron said.

"We should agree [to] specific actions including: a new exercise schedule adapted to the new security environment; the necessary infrastructure; pre-positioning of equipment and supplies; and an enhanced NATO Response Force. This should be part of a broader action plan that enables us to respond more quickly to any threat against any member of the Alliance, including when we have little warning," he said.

Mr. Cameron is due to host the NATO summit on Sept. 4-5, the first such meeting since the 2012 summit in Chicago, with the military alliance facing challenges on multiple fronts. Russia's intervention in Ukraine has plunged relations between the West and Moscow to their lowest ebb since the Cold War. And while the alliance's combat mission is coming to an end in Afghanistan, conflict has flared from North Africa, to Syria, Iraq and the Middle East.

"So we must use the summit to agree how NATO should adapt to respond to and deter such threats; and to ensure the continued collective defence of all its members," Mr. Cameron said.

In his letter, the prime minister set out five priorities for discussion at the summit: the response to Russia; financial support for the Afghan military; increasing military spending to counter the risks of failed states, regional conflicts and terror; a commitment to working with other nations who share the same democratic values; and establishing a charter for support of NATO armed forces personnel and their families when they retire or are wounded or killed.

Responding to the risks of global instability required investment, Mr. Cameron said. The U.K. was one of four NATO members to meet the target of spending 2% of their gross domestic product on defense, and he called on other members to make the strongest-possible commitment to increase spending in this area.



"As our economies start to recover, reversing the decline in defence spending and investing in our defence capabilities would strengthen Alliance cohesion and signal that NATO means business," he said, adding that the alliance should also help support military development in other countries, such as Georgia or the Middle East.

"The Wales Summit should prove that NATO is a rock-solid alliance with strong partnerships around the world that fosters global peace and stability, creating a secure environment for economies to grow," he said.

If the issue has been brought up repeatedly, and remains unresolved, then your own happiness must become paramount. The connection you have with your partner should never include one of a degrading and insulting nature.



Think about the future you are creating. Consider the extra burden you are carrying in dealing with your partners' behavior. Is he a shameless flirt? Is she bossy and demanding? Insecurity and lack of confidence can lead to problems down the road. Relationships are not about control and manipulation. When those factors enter into the relationship, and cannot be removed, it is time to end it.

Do you truly enjoy each other's company? Do you find yourself relieved whenever you part company? If a sense of relief occurs within you at your partners leaving, then this is a large sign that should not be ignored. Relationships need communication and closeness to survive. If you're finding yourself wishing your partner were gone more than you wish they were there, the end is near.



Evaluate your role in maintaining the relationship. Relationships are a two-way street. Each person has to be involved in giving and taking. When one person takes more and does not reciprocate, the relationship begins to wane. Equal participation and reciprocation in a relationship is imperative to its survival.

Does your partner show by actions that you are still important? As they say, actions speak louder than words. Your partners actions may change over time, but the attentiveness in their actions should not change. If your partner continually forgets to call, or ignores your calls, you have to ask yourself if this is acceptable to you. If not, then decisions will need to be made.

Do you feel accepted and appreciated? What can really be said in response to this question? If you are not feeling appreciated and you have discussed it with your partner and nothing changes, Move On.

Each person has to assess why he or she is in the relationship and how much mistreatment he or she is willing to accept in that relationship. Eventually, continued neglect between partners will result in hard feelings and a hurtful end to the relationship. Keep in mind that this assessment should be made after one feels they have made all the attempts necessary to revive the relationship.

Red Flags That a Man is a Pick-Up Artist

Many techniques to seducing a woman are discussed in Neil Strauss's book The Game [2005 HarberCollins]. These tactics turn seduction into an art (hence the phrase "pick-up artist"), and many of them are in the form of routines, strategies, and memorized lines.

Peacock Theory

Leaders of pick-up artist seminars form their theories a number of ways. Some study hypnosis or sexual psychology, and some just start from scratch, observing what does and does not seduce a woman. Two theories developed by the pick up artist known as "Mystery" are called Peacock Theory and Cat-String Theory.

Peacock Theory (Strauss, 22, 2005), taken from the brightly colored animal, posits that women are attracted to chic and brightly ornamented men. Thus, rings, necklaces, silk shirts, and other accessories will attract them. The theory branches off into other arenas, like personality. Pick-up artists, especially of Mystery's following, smile when entering a room and make it a point to become the center of attention in the group where the desired woman is present.



Cat-String Theory

Cat-String Theory (33) compares a man and woman to a string and cat. Strauss quotes Mystery, saying "when the string is dangling above its head, just out of reach, the cat goes crazy trying to get it. It leaps in the air, dances around, and chases it all over the room. But as soon as you let go of the string and it drops right between the cat's paws, it just looks at the string for a second and then walks away. It's bored. It doesn't want it anymore."



The philosophy has spawned tactics such as the "neg," which is a cross between an insult and a compliment (20). The compliment part shows interest, but the insult part shows that the woman will have to work to gain the approval of the man. An example might be "you're hair would really look better up/down," or "that dress really doesn't do justice to your figure."

Not Compromising

Some pick-up artists will not be satisfied not getting what they want. A "freeze-out," for example, is when the man ruins an atmosphere that has become intimate because the woman will not go as far as he wants (216-218). This could include turning lights on or opening a laptop and checking email. The idea is to make her feel that she can't have an intimate time under her own conditions, and must submit to the man's desires if she wants to have any intimate connection.

Pick-up artists function through manipulation and maintaining the emotional power in an interaction. If a woman does not want to be the victim of a pick-up, all she needs to do is recognize seduction tactics and not compromise her power (or simply ignore the seducer).

A high credit score can be a turn-on

CHICAGO (Reuters) - You cannot put a price on love, but you can certainly attach a financial number to a suitor.

Jennifer Murtoff, 39, wants to do just that before she accepts her next date. The Chicago freelance editor who helps city people raise fowl in their backyards is asking a question she hopes will help her weed out the losers: "What is your credit score?"

She could find the answer on CreditScoreDating.com, a website where potential dates provide that information.

"You might make $150,000 a year, but are you responsible, and how do you handle your money?" Murtoff says. "I'm looking for someone who can respect my financial values, and a credit score is a great indicator."

Plenty of other people agree. Membership at Wilmington, Delaware-based CreditScoreDating.com has grown to 20,000 from 15,000 in mid-2013.

Founder Niem Green says about 40 percent of his website's users are in their 20s and 30s, with many hailing from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.



The age breakdown is somewhat similar to that of Match.com, where 25 percent of members are under 30, but that online dating service, one of the largest in the United States, has far more members at 1.9 million, says its spokeswoman, Cayla Gebhardt.

THREE LITTLE DIGITS

Credit scores are derived from a complex formula that weighs factors such as outstanding debt, payment history and new credit lines. The three-digit number is used to predict the likelihood of delinquency on obligations from credit card bills to a mortgage.



In general, scores of 760 to 850 are considered excellent, while the 720-to-760 range is deemed good, says Ken Lin, founder of San Francisco-based credit and financial monitoring website Credit Karma.

But is creditworthiness really sexy?

"When we first started (CreditScoreDating.com), people thought it was kind of goofy," Green says. "Of course, the economy and everything else was going great. But by 2008, things got very treacherous, and it started to make a lot more sense. And we started to get a lot more members."

Green even has a book coming out next month called "Credit Score Dating: The Phenomenon/The Sexiness of Credit."

There is some evidence to back up the notion of creditworthiness as 21st-century kindling for romance. In its "Credit Score and Dating Report" issued last year, FreeCreditScore.com said 96 percent of women surveyed found financial responsibility attractive in a potential romantic partner, more than those saying they were drawn to physical attractiveness (87 percent) or career ambition (also 87 percent).

Further, credit scores are significantly more important to women (75 percent) than men (57 percent).

"What makes it more comfortable as a measure is that it's agnostic to wealth," says Ken Chaplin, a senior vice president at FreeCreditScore.com. "It's more about the person's character and how responsible they are."

NOT ALL THERE IS

Although having similar credit scores could theoretically increase the chances of compatibility, it does not work that way in real life, says Los Angeles-based psychiatrist Carole Lieberman, author of "Bad Girls: Why Men Love Them & How Good Girls Can Learn Their Secrets."

"People who go to a dating site based on credit scores are putting an emphasis on financial compatibility over other aspects of relationships that are at least equally important, if not more important," Lieberman says.

Well, at least they are not paying anything for the privilege thus far. CreditScoreDating.com is free to join, although Green plans to start charging a monthly subscription fee in the summer, in conjunction with a website revamp and a new smartphone app.

Alas, all dating sites are vulnerable to lies told by the lovers who use them. And when it comes to credit scores, Green knows how tempting it is to bend the truth, which is why he wants to get a third party involved to verify what members say.

While no marriages have come out of CreditScoreDating.com, folks like Paisley Stanton of Philadelphia report positive experiences there. The 35-year-old hair stylist is a single mother, and her marriage ended in 2009 partly because of financial issues.

"It's a deal breaker for me," Stanton says. "To hire a babysitter for someone who is a bad candidate ... it's a bad investment."

Pua Mau Botanical Garden Sculptures

The Pua Mau Botanical Gardens are 40+ acres of desert garden, located in Kawaihae, Hawaii, on the dry side of the slopes of the Kohala Mountains, Kohala Coast.

Pua Mau specializes in plants that are pua mau, or in Hawaiian, means "ever blooming", ever flowering. The location overlooks incredible panoramic views of the islands of Maui and Lanai (where Bill and Melinda Gates were married).

The praying mantis sculptures are about 6 ft. tall, and located all throughout the gardens. There are many other strange, offbeat sculptures, as well, but not enough room to put them all here.

(CNN) -- Your buddy's wife decides to "friend" her ex on Facebook. Your local politician gets busted sending pictures of his private parts to his campaign workers. Your sister tells you her boyfriend wants her to watch pornography with him.

It's easy to offer your two cents in these situations -- but what would you do if they happened in your relationship?

That's the premise of a new survey I developed with my colleague Kristen Mark, director of the Sexual Health Promotion Lab at the University of Kentucky.

We asked nearly 5,000 men and women how they thought they would react in 50 different sex and relationship scenarios to get a sense of how the average person would respond when faced with their own fun, adventurous -- and sometimes, anxiety-provoking -- situations. Their answers (and your own feelings on these subjects) might surprise you.

For example, more than half of participants didn't view a Facebook connection between their significant other and his or her ex as a threat, but more than a third said they would question them about it and 17% said they would ask their partner to "de-friend" the ex.

Coming out -- as a couple

The latter two groups may have the right idea: In my experience, people tend to greatly underestimate the pitfalls of Facebook and other forms of social media. I see many couples who are struggling with emotional or sexual infidelity as the result of new hookups and reconnections with old flames online, where it's easy to romanticize each other.

"Relationships require more negotiation in this technological age around the 'rules' of what is appropriate and respectful and what is not," explains Mark.

When it comes to actual infidelity -- in this case, a hypothetical one-night stand -- 30% of respondents say they would tell their partner right away, while the same number thought they would keep the slip-up a secret. Men were more likely than women to keep quiet about their cheating.





"The big question to ask yourself is, 'Is telling your partner in his or her best interest -- would they want to know, or are you just trying to make yourself feel better by getting it off your chest?'" says sex therapist Megan Fleming. "If your partner would likely find out, I've found that almost universally, the preference is to hear it from you first."

"You should be able to talk openly and honestly about sex with your partner -- and if monogamy isn't your strong suit, you may want to consider negotiating an open relationship," adds social psychologist Justin Lehmiller. "You don't need to be monogamous to have a good relationship, but you do need to be able to trust one another."

People seem somewhat more willing to spill the beans when they receive unwanted sexual attention from someone else.

Asked to imagine that they were on the receiving end of a sexual text message from their boss, 45% of respondents said they would reply with a message saying it was inappropriate, while 35% would either go directly to human resources to report it or would ignore it completely.

Warning: Men's natural sex supplements may not be

"I find these results surprising," says Fleming. "I'd like to think that in 2013, people would feel empowered and comfortable to appropriately set boundaries and let their boss or any other co-worker know when they've crossed an unwanted and unacceptable line."

And keeping mum on the situation could backfire: "It isn't easy to be honest and direct with authority figures who can potentially damage your career," explains clinical psychologist Zoya Simakhodskaya. "However, doing nothing can lead your boss to believe that such behavior is acceptable -- and you will feel more and more uncomfortable at work."

On a lighter note, we found that most participants were willing to try something new in the interest of their sex life.

For instance, 70% of respondents said that they would accept a sex toy as a gift and integrate it into their relationship. About the same number -- both men and women -- were game to watch porn with their partner, and to try something in bed that made them blush if it pleased their partner. A third of participants said they would even consider "swinging" with another couple, as long as their partner was involved.

These answers seem right in line with what many experts see as a mainstreaming of certain sexual activities.

"People want to keep things fresh and have new experiences in their intimate lives," says sex educator and entrepreneur Patty Brisben. "You can build a house with a strong foundation, but if you don't decorate it, it's not going to be a very exciting place to live.

"The same goes for relationships: If you don't take the time to keep it interesting and fresh and experience new things in your intimate life, your relationship will suffer," she says. "If you arm yourself with knowledge and communicate openly, both partners can feel satisfied."

"You're my rumor boyfriend on Twitter," Kylie said to Cody. "Nice to finally meet you."



Kendall later said to camera, "I think Kylie should date Cody Simpson because they'd be so cute together."

Kylie even went so far as to proclaim, "I'd marry an Australian."

After the premiere Simpson tweeted to the Jenner girls, "had a real good time on the red carpet with you last night. and see ya soon I hope!"

US Weekly claims Cody and Kylie are definitely dating. "They are a couple!" a source told the mag. "They are so cute together."



Reps for Kylie and Cody did not immediately comment for this story.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Former Tinder marketing Vice President Whitney Wolfe is suing the popular dating-app company for sexual harassment and discrimination, making it the latest technology business to face challenges over its treatment of women.

Wolfe's lawsuit, filed Monday, listed a series of alleged incidents of harassment over roughly 18 months starting in late 2012. Among the allegations: that Chief Executive Officer Sean Rad and the company's chief marketing officer, Justin Mateen, removed her title as co-founder because of her gender; and that Mateen publicly insulted her, including calling her a whore at a company party, while Rad ignored her complaints.

IAC/InterActiveCorp (IACI.O) owns a majority stake in Los Angeles-based Tinder and is also a defendant, along with fellow dating site and IAC portfolio company Match.com.

A spokesman for IAC said that Mateen had been suspended pending an ongoing internal investigation, and called messages he sent Wolfe "inappropriate."

"We unequivocally condemn these messages," the spokesman said, "but believe that Ms. Wolfe's allegations with respect to Tinder and its management are unfounded."

Tinder and Match did not reply to emails requesting comment.

In the lawsuit, Wolfe says she came up with the name "Tinder" for the service in mid-2012, shortly after its creation, amid worries that its original name, Matchbox, was too similar to Match.com.



The lawsuit says Wolfe became romantically involved with Mateen, her boss, who joined the company in late 2012.

Although she was designated a co-founder in a November 2012 meeting, Mateen told her that having a "girl founder" devalued the company, according to the lawsuit. In November 2013, Mateen and Rad removed her co-founder title.

As her romance broke down, the suit says, Mateen called her "a desperate loser" in a marketing meeting and told Rad and others she was an alcoholic. He also sent her a series of harassing texts, it states. Wolfe complained to Rad, who would ignore her "or call her a dramatic or emotional girl," the suit says, adding that in one meeting, Rad told her it was her job to "keep Justin calm."

The lawsuit alleges that Wolfe resigned after Mateen called her a whore at a company party in April.

The allegations come as Silicon Valley draws fire for its female-unfriendly atmosphere, which activists say contributes to the low number of female technology executives and company founders. Some have dubbed the culture at many companies as one of the "brogrammer," meaning a partying male programmer.

The Tinder lawsuit was filed in Superior Court of the State of California, Los Angeles.

Ginger White says she and Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain had an affair that lasted more than a decade in a report released by Atlanta-based station Fox 5 on Monday.

The Georgia businesswoman said what occurred between herself and Cain was "pretty simple." She explained, "I was aware that he was married. And I was also aware I was involved in a very inappropriate situation, relationship."

White opened up over the weekend about the alleged affair, which she said went on for 13 years.

Fox 5 reports:

When [Cain's] new book, CEO of SELF, came out in 2001, she says Cain once again autographed it for her writing, "Friends are forever! Everything else is a bonus."

Even before White's accusations came to light, Cain sought to do damage control. During an interview on CNN on Monday, the presidential candidate preemptively said he was expecting to face allegations of "an affair for an extended period of time" and denied any wrongdoing.

While Cain did not identify White by name during the appearance, he said of his accuser, "It is someone that I know who is an acquaintance that I thought was a friend."

In the past month, sexual harassment allegations leveled against Cain by multiple women have been thrust into the public eye. The Republican hopeful has vehemently denied their charges.

"Here we go again," Cain said on Monday. "I didn't do anything wrong."



In speaking to Fox 5, White alleged that her physical relationship with Cain ended before the former CEO of Godfather's Pizza launched his campaign roughly eight months ago. She said, however, their communication continued beyond that point.

White predicted that her decision to go public with her side of the story will likely mark the end of her relationship with Cain. Nevertheless, she said, "We have a friendship now."

Relationship Advice - Can Rebound Relationships Ever Work

If I mention the phrase rebound relationships, I bet eight out of ten people will say that they just don't work, indeed this may be your opinion. However l totally disagree, so called rebound relationships have just as much chance of success as any other. There are many people who go on to have a happy healthy relationship, even if they did meet shortly after one of them was involved in a breakup.

There is no reason why a so called rebound relationship should be any less likely to succeed, than one that starts when both partners are long term singles. Yes I know that emotions may be high after a breakup, and this is not the best way to start something, but if you just happen to meet your dream mate does this really matter. It is definitely no reason to avoid starting something with them. We can't always choose when we fall for someone, and there is no way you should loose a potential soul mate just because you just broke up with someone.

Not all relationships end with a bang, in fact many end with a whimper. What I mean by this is, the one reason people say don't get involved on the rebound may not apply. Some relationships do end due to one big thing like one partner cheating or similar, but most just end because they grew apart, or their attraction for each other just faded. Indeed many people have emotionally broken up and moved on long before the actual breakup. People in this situation will be ready for a new relationship, the rebound rule just doesn't apply.

If you are the one that suffered the breakup, and are moving directly into a new relationship. You should ask yourself if you are doing it for the eight reasons. If you are just doing it to make your ex jealous, and to exact some revenge for wrongs you think they did to you, then don't! It just isn't fair to your new beau to put them in this situation. You will end up hurting two people, as well as suffering the inevitable guilt yourself. It is OK to date casually, as long as the people you date know you aren't looking for anything long term, but revenge is never good.

Rebound relationships can work, and if you do end up in one yourself, you have every chance of success. Learn from your breakup, and don't make the same mistakes again. You could end up with your rebound girl or guy for a long time.

Just consider that for a second-a happy, successful relationship? How do I know that? Well, you probably just discovered that your boyfriend is well-versed in the art of pick-up and it disturbs you. If there were already problems with the relationship the chances are you'd just ditch the guy, much less read up on pick-up to find out what its all about. Congratulations on being smart enough to do that, you are a high-quality woman.

Now, maybe you found some website on pick-up in his internet bookmarks, maybe you found a copy of "The Game" by Neil Strauss, or some other book/s on pick-up, under the bed. Whatever, you may understandably be feeling a little angry and deceived right now.

The first thing you need to do is understand that there are many, many reasons why guys become interested in pick-up. These run the gamut from a simple desire to get as many girls into bed as possible through self-improvement, sheer intellectual curiousity to the need to find that pure, unconditional love in a partner almost everybody craves. In short, pick-up artists (PUA) are people, pure and simple.

The second thing you need to establish is to what extent your boyfriend's interest is. If there is just that one copy of "The Game" under the bed the chances are that he is not really that expert or knowledgeable about the subject, and may just have had a mild curiosity that has already evaporated. This is probably the most likely explanation, in which case forget it and get on with your life. I have a book on karate somewhere, but I'm not a black belt.

If you suspect your boyfriend's interest is more intense, then you need to understand a few things.

Pick-up artists do not hate women, at least any more than men in general.

Most PUA's originally started as decent, romantic men who tried to find the women of their dreams the old-fashioned way by being them flowers, taking them to restaurants, and proclaiming their undying love. When they found out that just didn't work they wanted to know why.

There is a difference between being a player and knowing how to play.

Pick-up artists do not use "tricks" to get you into bed. Rather the emphasis is on rediscovering yourself and getting rid of all the social programming society teaches you. You may be wondering who your "real" boyfriend is-the truth is he probably became more rather than less true to himself by learning pick-up. In any case, PUA theory mainly applies to the initial stages of a relationship. It can't teach you who to be.

Now, there is a kind of negative in having a boyfriend PUA in that it is likely, if your guy is any good at it, that he would find it easier to stray than most men. However, you need to really think about that-do you want a guy who will never approach another women because, frankly, he wouldn't know how, or do you want a guy you can trust? If it is the latter, then really it makes no difference.

Successful PUA's actually many qualities that in other circumstances would be considered heroic. They are generally intelligent, resourceful, highly skilled socially, and willing to take risks when necessary. Your guy took a risk on you the first time you met him.

This is not to say all PUA's are wonderful people. Like any group of people you will find some misogynists, cynics and general bad apples in the group. But you would be wrong to assume your boyfriend falls into this category just because he wanted to learn how to meet women.

"It's exactly like using Match.com," says Darrell Lerner, who ought to know. Before he founded pet-finder site Allpaws.com (which currently has 82,960 pets awaiting adoption), Lerner co-founded SNAP Interactive, the developer of AYI (Are You Interested?), a dating application on Facebook with, he says, some 70 million installs.

Allpaws, says its website, "Takes online pet listing in a new and exciting direction by offering an online dating style interface complete with advanced search tools." Those include some 30 different search filters, Lerner tells ABC News. Adopters (we hesitate to call them "early adopters," although the site launched only this past January) can search by type of pet, breed, location, gender, age, size or friskiness. You can search for a bird who's great with children, a senior cat or a special-needs chinchilla. The site lists over 49,000 dogs, over 31,000 cats, 1,208 rabbits and 272 horses--not to mention 658 animals "small and furry," 79 that hail from the barnyard and 238 slitherers and other assorted reptiles.



Hedgehogs spike in popularity as pets

PuppyFind.com, as its name implies, matches puppy-seekers with breeders. "We're puppies-only," says Mike Peters, head of business development.

Peters tells ABC News the site lists some 50,000 puppies (from 300 different breeds), some priced as high at $3,000 per pup. The site makes money by charging breeders a flat fee. It exists only to connect buyers and sellers. From there on in, it takes no further role in the transaction.

The site, says Peters, was the target of scammers some years ago--people falsely claiming to be breeders, many doing business from overseas. They would list puppies for sale and collect the money. Then Fido would not be forthcoming.

Such scammers, in their sales blurbs, would tell heart-tugging tales explaining why they had to sell their Dalmatians at fire-sale prices, he says. The cons were cousins to those now in circulation, for example, where a man trapped in the Cairo airport promises to send you a check for $1,000, if only you will wire $350 so he can get a new passport.

PupyFind, Peters says, has since installed security software that makes such scams harder to perpetrate.

Miranda Furtado, 28, of Toronto, Canada, tells ABC she used PupyFind last November.

Edible marijuana a threat to pets

The self-described editor, guru and broadcaster--founder of a website that delivers sports news to women (BabesDigBalls.com)--says she had always wanted a French bulldog. She calls finding the right dog online a higher-risk proposition than online dating. "With a puppy, you're putting money down," she explains.

"I wasn't even sure the dog would show up."

But he did. And Elvis (so-named because he has a cleft lip) has since turned out to be "an amazing dog."

His lip was not a defect in Furtado's eyes, since it made him a cheaper buy than a Canadian bulldog would have been. "Here, they're really expensive."

Elvis is the best dog she has ever had, says Furtado. "I couldn't be happier."

Relationship Advice for the Perfectionist

Life in an imperfect world is difficult for the perfectionist. Seeking an illusory perfect life, the perfectionist expects perfection in relationships, goal attainment, career, and every other aspect of life.

Though perfectionism has many positive overtones, according to Jennifer Drapkin ("The Pitfalls of Perfectionism," PsychologyToday.com, September, 2001), "Perfectionists are also at risk for eating disorders, sexual dysfunction, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression, divorce, and suicide." The perfectionist's issues and disorders make healthy relationships very difficult.

Three Types of Perfectionists

Psychologists Gordon Flett and Paul Hewitt describe three types of perfectionists: those expecting perfection in themselves (self-oriented), those believing others expect them to be perfect (socially-prescribed), and those expecting perfection in others (other-oriented). In each case, the expectations held are unrealistically idealistic.

The self-oriented perfectionist is seldom satisfied with any aspect of performance or appearance. Difficult goals are set as a way of validating self-worth. If achieved, this perfectionist garners little satisfaction, instead moves to the next difficult goal.

The socially-prescribed perfectionist continually seeks self esteem from the outside world. This perfectionist learned early on that love and acceptance depended on achievements, with self-worth hanging on a delicate balance of the approval of others.

Other-oriented perfectionism expects flawless appearance, behavior, and performance from others, holding them to standards impossible to sustain.

Relationship Problems of Perfectionism

In a relationship, the self-oriented perfectionist will set impossible standards for her appearance and behavior, dismissing praise and compliments of the partner and enjoying little satisfaction from achievements. While the self-oriented perfectionist will tolerate flaws in others, she will give herself no lenience for errors and failures.

For the socially-prescribed perfectionist, relationship problems stem from the perfectionist's continual and insatiable appetite for compliments and praise. The relationship suffers when a partner is unable to sustain the level of positive feedback the perfectionist requires.

Relationship issues for the other-oriented perfectionist result from unrealistic expectations the perfectionist has for other people. Setting impossibly high standards for others, the perfectionist sees failure and flaws in every relationship.

Relationship Advice in Overcoming Perfectionism

TV psychologist Dr. Phil offers suggestions for overcoming perfectionism and improving relationships with these questions:



What is driving your need for perfectionism?

What are you afraid people will conclude about you if you aren't perfect?

What do you know about you, that you think everybody would see, if you didn't keep up the facade?

Psychologist Gordon Flett suggests that perfectionists learn to accept the flaws in self and others, observing doing so "is not the pathway to mediocrity; it's the high road to a more loving -- and satisfying -- life."

Psychologist Nick Halpin suggests: "Check your feelings. Use feelings of anxiety and depression as opportunities to ask yourself, 'Have I set up impossible expectations for myself in this situation?'"

Halpin also suggests celebrating mistakes, reinforcing the benefits of learning from one's mistakes while recognizing that others who love you will continue to love you even if you're imperfect.

Relationship Problems

The perfectionist's unrealistic standards for self or others creates difficulties in relationships. Psychologists relationship advice counsels greater tolerance of normal human imperfections.

Perfectionism and Self-Limiting Beliefs

One cause of perfectionism may be self-limiting core beliefs held in the subconscious mind. Beliefs such as, "I'm not good enough and never have been," "If they really knew me they'd know I'm a goof-off," or "I'm not smart enough to make mistakes and still succeed," and others like them may be the self-limiting beliefs behind perfectionism. The Four Mistakes Of Pick-up

Pick-up- as it really is, rather than as it's taught in the popular magazine- is a 3-phase sequence which must be followed in order for reliable results. The first phase is attraction, where the man gains attraction from the woman; the second phase is comfort, where the man gets the woman to feel comfortable with him; the third phase is seduction, where the man, having gained attraction and comfort proceeds to convert these vital two ingredients into a sexual relationship. Nearly all the mistakes of pick-up- that is any male-female interaction which does not result in a sexual relationship- can be attributed to an error in following the sequence described here.

Mistake 1: starting at the end

A man who starts at the last phase- seduction- disregards the need for a woman to first feel attracted and also the need for her to feel comfort and initiates the interaction directly in the seduction mode. He touches the woman improperly, conveys too much sexual intent too soon, and will come across as sleazy or worse.

Mistake 2: starting at the middle

Men who have observed mistake number 1 often try to rectify this by implementing a comfort phase before seduction. Almost always they never reach the seduction phase, because having ignored the need for a woman to be attracted, they get stuck in the 'friend zone', where a woman becomes too comfortable with them as a friend to ever feel comfortable proceeding into a sexual relation. Men who start in the middle are commonly referred to as 'nice guys'.

Mistake 3: skipping the middle

Men who are proficient at building attraction (phase one), but then proceed directly to seduction- without comfort- are commonly referred to as "players". A woman may feel attraction to this man, but she is unlikely to believe or understand that he is attracted to her in any way which is unique or relevant to her- a vital and necessary ingredient for the smooth implementation of the seduction phase.

Mistake 4: getting stuck in the middle

Similar to mistake number 2, these men lay down the necessary foundations for seduction, but lack the confidence or the knowhow to advance smoothly into this phase, so forever circle between attraction and comfort. The woman soon becomes confused as to the man's intention and places him, like the nice guy, in the friend zone.



Often, just being aware of the correct sequence of a pick-up can act as a vital checklist during an interaction with a woman. The man should be aware of what phase he is in at any one moment, and never go backwards in the pick-up, nor go forwards too quickly (and skip one of the phases).

hi, my name is isabel. I am 20 years old, and me and my boyfriend broke up 4 weeks ago exactly. We dated for a year and almost 5 months, i was his very first serious relationship. but it was all a little complicated, we had met at a party but we couldn't really see each other all that much. during the time we dated, we were only able to see each other about 8 times because he had no car and neither did i, but either way we still loved each other very much. but anyways, he had introduced me to his parents and his family and his friends. we both had way too many things in common and we both wanted the same things for our future. we had everything planned out like what age we would get married, how many kids we would have, who would the godparents would be, etc etc.. so he then decided to start attending a college nearby to me, i live in riverside and he lived in L.A. He also had decided to start dorming at Cal State San Bernardino because he wanted to see me alot more and fix the problem that we couldnt see each other much, i felt really happy about that but i felt bad for him because he was leaving all his family and friends and he knew nobody at cal state san bernardino. but about a month before he started dorming there, before he was even able to start dorming there, he had told me that his feelings for me were starting to go away, i got really sad and frustrated and i asked him if we could try, to try to make him fall in love with me again so he gave me the chance, i had started studying the driver handbook and i was planning to see him the week he started dorming there.. but a day before i was gonna see him he told me he didn't have any feelings for me anymore, so he ended up breaking up with me. His best friend was really surprised about the break up and asked him what happened, and he said that it was because me and my ex boyfriend didnt see each other much. so i had decided on something, i was gonna go every friday to go see him, but after the second friday that i went to see him (which was an amazing day by the way, we were laughing alot) he had updated his Facebook and he had put that he was in a relationship 3 days later after i went to see him. i got really upset that i even walked out of my class and i called him, i asked him since when he had met her and he started liking her and he had said that it was the thursday before my last friday visit to him.. i waited like an hour after that call, and i texted him that i would still like to be friends, he had agreed but he said that we couldnt talk as much, i asked him why and he said that it wouldn't be right.. then i asked him why wouldnt it be right, that i was just going to be his friend and he didnt reply back anymore, my mom then found out and she got really upset with him because of what happened and she had me delete him from my Facebook. but then i sent him a couple messages later that day trying to get him to reply but no answer. so then i decided to try the NC rule to try to make him miss me and right now, i currently have 2 weeks and 4 days that i dont speak to him.. but i have to be completely honest with you, i feel really bad, i wake up every morning with a huge lump in my throat that its so difficult for me to even eat breakfast, but i still eat it and then i feel nauseated... i have had many dreams about him. i just really feel the need to talk about it with someone, i just really want to get him back, me and him shared pretty much the same goals together and we wanted the same things pretty much, we were just so happy together, always laughing and smiling.. oh and i am about to buy a car, i forgot to mention that and i am going to transfer to the same school as him. i really dont just want to give up on him, he has always motivated me to be a better person.. he always thought i was funny and really caring. So is there a way I can get him back?
